What you'll hear

Picture this: you're playing one of those fun geography games on your phone, the kind where you have to identify countries on a map. You've just hit the challenge level: 'Name all the countries that share a land border with Guyana, and the body of water to our north!' And you’re tapping away, feeling confident, maybe you even get one right...

then you get stuck on the others. It's a common mix-up, really. That's actually what we're going to explore today in 'Our Border Buddies: Meeting Guyana's Neighbours'.

So, let's start with the easiest one, the body of water to our north. Imagine you're standing on the coast, maybe at Kingston Seawall, looking out at the horizon. What do you see?

That vast, sparkling expanse of blue is the Atlantic Ocean. That's right, the Atlantic Ocean forms our entire northern border. It's a huge part of our identity, connecting us to so many other parts of the world.

Now for the land borders. This is where it gets a little more interesting, and where the geography game can really trick you. Guyana shares its land with three other countries.

Do you know them?
