For students

Getting Started

How do I pick my grade?

When you first sign up, you choose your grade. You can change it at any time: tap the grade at the top of the screen (for example 'Grade 5') and pick another one.

Can I study a different grade?

Yes. Tap the grade at the top of the screen and choose any grade from 4 to 11. StudyBuddy remembers your choice, and your progress in every grade stays saved.

What is StudyBuddy+?

StudyBuddy+ gives you higher or unlimited practice limits, more Ask Buddy messages, unlimited BuddyCasts and games, and other Plus features. New student accounts start with a 7-day free trial — no credit card needed. Check the Upgrade page for the current features and plans.

Can I use StudyBuddy on both my phone and my computer?

Yes! StudyBuddy works on any device with a web browser — phone, tablet, or computer. Just sign in with the same account and your progress will be in sync across all your devices.

How do I change my display name or avatar?

Go to your Profile page (tap your avatar, then 'View profile'). Tap Edit to change your display name, or tap your avatar to choose a new one.

The app isn't loading properly. What should I do?

Try refreshing the page first. If that doesn't help, clear your browser cache or try opening StudyBuddy in a different browser. Make sure your internet connection is stable. If the problem continues, send us a message from the Contact page and we'll sort it out.

Streaks & XP

What is a streak?

A streak counts how many days in a row you've studied on StudyBuddy. Study at least once each day to keep it going. Your streak is shown on your Home screen and profile.

How do I earn XP?

You earn XP (experience points) by completing flashcard sessions, quizzes, games and BuddyCasts. The more you practise, the faster you level up. XP also affects your position on the Leaderboard.

What is a Nature Pass?

A Nature Pass freezes your streak for up to 3 days so you don't lose it when life gets busy. You start with 1, earn another each time you reach a 7-day streak, and can hold up to 3. A parent can also give you one. To use one, tap the leaf at the top of your Home screen.

What happens if I miss a day?

If you miss a day without a Nature Pass, your streak resets to zero. Don't worry — you can always build it back up! Your XP and study history are never affected.

My streak disappeared even though I practised. Why?

Each day ends at midnight. If you studied just before or just after midnight, the timing might have caused it to not register for that day. Make sure you complete at least one session before midnight to keep your streak going. If you think it's a technical error, send us a message from the Contact page.

Can I get my streak back after missing a day?

Streaks can't be manually restored once broken, but you can start a brand new one straight away. Your XP, Nuggets, and study history are all still there — only the streak counter resets.

What's the leaderboard and how do I appear on it?

The leaderboard ranks students by XP earned. You appear once you start earning XP. On Home, tap your rank (the trophy) and switch between All Time, This Week and This Month.

Nuggets

What are Nuggets?

Nuggets are StudyBuddy's virtual currency. They're a fun way to track your effort and dedication on the platform.

How do I earn Nuggets?

You can earn Nuggets through study activities such as Daily Review, flashcards, quizzes and games. Open the Nuggets page to see your balance and earning history.

Can I spend Nuggets yet?

Not yet. The Nuggets page shows your balance and history, but spending them on quiz lifelines is a planned feature, not an active store.

My Nugget balance looks wrong. What should I do?

Try refreshing the page — balances sometimes take a moment to update after a session. If it still looks incorrect after a refresh, send us a message from the Contact page with your username and we'll look into it.

FlipSide (Flashcards)

How does FlipSide work?

Tap FlipSide, choose your grade and a subject, then start a flashcard session. Cards you find difficult come back more often, while cards you know well appear less frequently.

What does 'mastery' mean?

Mastery shows how well you know the cards in a subject. When you consistently answer a card correctly, its mastery level goes up. Aim for 100% mastery across all your subjects!

Can I choose which topics to practise?

Yes. In FlipSide, choose a subject and topic for focused practice, or choose Mixed Session for a variety of cards. You can view your saved progress from the FlipSide screen.

Why do I keep seeing the same cards?

The spaced repetition system repeats cards you haven't fully mastered yet. Once you answer a card correctly several times in a row, it will show up less often. Keep going — it means the system is working!

How long does a practice session take?

Sessions are designed to be short — usually 5 to 15 minutes. You can stop at any time and your progress is saved automatically.

Daily Review

How do I do my Daily Review?

From Home, tap Daily Review. Answer one question at a time, then tap Next Question until you finish. Your results show the XP and Nuggets you earned.

Can I do Daily Review more than once today?

Daily Review is available once per day. After completing it, come back tomorrow for a new review.

QuickFire

How do I start a QuickFire session?

Tap QuickFire, check or switch your grade, choose a subject, then select a quiz. Sessions use curriculum-aligned questions in different formats to match what you're studying.

Can I review my answers after a QuickFire session?

Yes — after finishing a QuickFire session you'll see a full results screen with every question, your answer, the correct answer, and an explanation.

Games

What games are available?

Open Games to see what's available for your account. Games include Scramble, Word Detective, Hangman, Word Search, Crossword, Spelling Bee and Sort It, and we add more over time.

Why can't I start another game?

Free accounts can play a set number of games each week. When you reach the limit, the game shows exactly when more unlock. StudyBuddy+ members get unlimited games.

BuddyCasts

What are BuddyCasts?

BuddyCasts are short audio lessons. Each one explains a topic the way a patient teacher would. They're great for learning on the go, or when you'd rather listen than read.

How do I find BuddyCasts for my subject?

Tap BuddyCasts in the menu and browse the episodes by grade and subject. Choose one to start listening.

Ask Buddy (AI Tutor)

What can Ask Buddy help with?

Ask Buddy is an AI study assistant for schoolwork. Type a question about a topic you're studying and Buddy will explain it in plain language. It's especially helpful when you're stuck on a quiz question or flashcard. Buddy can also tell you how to use StudyBuddy, like where to find something or how to change your email. For anything else, Buddy will kindly bring you back to your studies.

Are Ask Buddy chats saved?

Yes. Your chats are saved so you can look back at them later. Our team may read them to make sure Buddy's answers are accurate, kind and right for children. Chats are never sold or used for advertising, and a parent can ask us to delete them at any time by emailing hello@studybuddy.gy.

Is Ask Buddy always right?

Buddy is very helpful but can occasionally make mistakes on tricky questions. Always cross-check important answers with your textbook or teacher, especially before an exam.

How many questions can I ask Ask Buddy?

Free accounts have a limited number of Ask Buddy messages each week. StudyBuddy+ members can ask as much as they need. Your remaining messages are shown at the top of the Ask Buddy screen.

For parents

Managing Your Family

How do I add a child profile?

During parent setup, enter each child's name and grade. They use a profile on your device by default. Check 'I want this child to use their own email address' if they need an invitation and their own login; the invite is sent when you finish adding that child. Later, use Add child on Home or Profile → Family.

What's the difference between 'same device' and 'their own device'?

With the default same-device setup, no child email or separate login is needed: switch profiles on your signed-in device. If you choose the email option, they'll be invited to sign in on their own device and you'll still see their progress. You can also give a child you already added their own login later (see below).

How do I switch between child profiles?

Tap your avatar (top-right on mobile, or the profile strip on desktop). A menu will appear showing all your child profiles. Tap any one to switch to their view.

Can I add more than one child?

Yes. A family plan supports up to three child profiles, each with separate progress. Home shows the available slots; other plans may allow fewer children. Tap an available slot or go to Profile → Family to add one.

Can two children share the same device?

Yes. Set both children up as 'same device' profiles. You switch between them by tapping the avatar in the top corner and selecting the child you want. Each child's progress is tracked separately.

My child is locked out of their account. How do I help them?

A shared-device child has no separate password; sign in to your parent account and switch to their profile. If a child has their own email login, use Forgot password? on the sign-in screen. If the invitation or reset doesn't arrive, send us a message from the Contact page.

Can I give a child I already added their own login?

Yes. Go to Profile → Family and tap 'Add a separate email login' on that child. They'll get an email invitation to set up their own password. Their profile and progress stay in your family, and you can still switch to them on your device.

Reports & Progress

What does the progress dashboard show?

From Home, select a child card to see their own study activity. Reports include recent activity, streaks, flashcard mastery, subject breakdown, paper history, score trends, and focus areas where data is available. A new profile's report will fill in after the child starts studying.

Why are some report sections locked?

Detailed reports — including score trends, weak topics, and full paper history — are part of the StudyBuddy+ subscription. Upgrade to unlock them and get the full picture of your child's progress.

How often is the progress data updated?

Reports update as study sessions are recorded. If you don't see the latest activity, refresh the page. Some trends need more than one completed session before they can appear.

Can I get progress reports by email?

Yes. Every Sunday evening we email a summary of each child's study activity for the week. It's on by default; to stop it, go to your Profile, find Parent Notifications and turn off Weekly activity report. You can also see reports on Home at any time.

StudyBuddy+ Subscription

What is StudyBuddy+?

StudyBuddy+ is the premium plan that removes the weekly free limits on quizzes, flashcards, games, BuddyCasts and Ask Buddy. The Family plan covers every child in your family.

How does the free trial work?

New student signups receive a 7-day StudyBuddy+ trial automatically, without a credit card. Check Profile or Upgrade for your account's trial status. When access ends, you can subscribe or continue using the free features.

How do I upgrade to StudyBuddy+?

Tap the 'Upgrade' link in the navigation or visit your Profile page and tap 'Upgrade to Plus'. Choose the Individual or Family plan and how long you want it for. You pay once; it doesn't renew by itself.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept card payments, MMG (Mobile Money Guyana) and bank transfer. For MMG, send the payment to 601-0111 (Xcess Interactive) in your MMG app, then enter the MMG transaction ID on the Upgrade page. Bank-transfer details appear when you choose that option.

I made a payment but my account hasn't been upgraded. What do I do?

Card payments switch on StudyBuddy+ straight away. MMG and bank payments are checked by our team, usually within a few hours during our support hours. If your account hasn't updated after 24 hours, send us a message from the Contact page with your name, account email and payment reference.

How do I get a receipt for my payment?

Once your payment is verified and your account is upgraded, you'll receive a confirmation. If you need a formal receipt, send us a message from the Contact page with your payment details and we'll send one to you.

Do I need to cancel StudyBuddy+?

No. You pay once for the time you choose, and StudyBuddy+ never renews or charges you again by itself. When it ends, you can buy more time or carry on with the free features.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. If you're not happy, ask within 14 days of your first StudyBuddy+ payment for a full refund, no reason needed. After 14 days we only refund if you were charged twice, charged the wrong amount, or a fault on our side stopped you using StudyBuddy+. Unused gift codes can be refunded within 14 days. Email hello@studybuddy.gy with your account email and payment reference; we reply within 2 working days. Card refunds take 5–10 days to reach your card; MMG and bank payments are returned within 7 working days. StudyBuddy+ ends when the refund is made. Full details are in our Terms of Service.

Does one subscription cover all my children?

Yes. A StudyBuddy+ family subscription covers the parent and up to three child profiles. You don't need to pay separately for each child.

How do I upgrade from an individual plan to a family plan?

Open Profile → Family and choose the family upgrade option. The app will show whether you can switch at renewal or need to pay a difference first; review the details before confirming. Your existing child profiles remain under your account.

Account & Access

How do I switch between parent view and student view?

If you've activated a student account for yourself alongside your parent account, tap your avatar and select your profile from the menu. Choose 'Parent view' to manage your children, or tap your own student profile to study.

What is a co-parent (viewer) account?

A co-parent viewer can see the family dashboard and reports but cannot switch into a child's study view or change profiles and subscriptions. Invite them from Profile → Family. Inviting a co-parent needs StudyBuddy+, and their access pauses if StudyBuddy+ ends.

I forgot my password. What do I do?

On the sign-in screen, tap 'Forgot password?' and enter your email address. You'll receive a reset link. If you signed up with Google, you won't have a password — just sign in with Google.

How do I update my email address?

Send us a message from the Contact page with your current email and the new one, and we'll update it for you.

I'm not receiving the login verification code. What should I do?

Check your spam or junk folder first — verification emails sometimes land there. Make sure you're checking the correct email address. If it's still not arriving after a minute or two, try requesting a new code. Still stuck? Send us a message from the Contact page.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. To request an account deletion, send us a message from the Contact page or email hello@studybuddy.gy with your account email address. We'll process the request and confirm once it's done. Note that deletion is permanent and removes all your data.

Still need help?

Send us a message or email hello@studybuddy.gy. Support hours: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm; Saturday and Sunday, 9 am to 1 pm. Closed on public holidays. We reply within one working day.
