What's new on StudyBuddy
New features and improvements for Guyanese students preparing for the NGSA and CSEC, and for their parents (see a sample parent report).
October 2026
- ⚡ QuickFire quizzes — Quick quizzes for every topic from Grade 4 to Grade 11, with six kinds of questions: multiple choice, true or false, fill in the blank, matching, putting things in order and word scrambles. Many topics have short study notes to read first.
- 🃏 FlipSide cards — Flashcards for every topic in Grades 4 to 11. Flip a card, mark whether you knew it, and keep going until it sticks.
- 🎧 BuddyCasts — More than 880 short audio lessons, about four minutes each, that explain a topic like a patient teacher. Search by what you want to learn.
- 📝 NGSA-style and CSEC-style practice papers — Original practice papers in the same format as the real exams: 48 NGSA-style papers in Mathematics, English, Science and Social Studies, and CSEC-style papers in 18 subjects. Every paper is written fresh, never copied from a real exam.
- 🤖 Ask Buddy and Explain This — Ask Buddy is a study helper for schoolwork: ask it to explain a topic or a question in plain language. In quizzes and papers it helps you think a question through without giving away the answer before you've tried.
- 🎮 12 study games, including Word Detective — Word games like Crossword, Hangman, Spelling Bee and Word Detective, number games like Number Ninja, and more, built from what you're studying.
- 👨👩👧 Parent reports — Parents see each child's subjects, the topics to work on next, study habits and progress week by week, with a weekly email. Up to three children on one family account, and a child can study on a parent's phone under their own name. The full report comes with StudyBuddy+; see a sample at studybuddy.gy/parents.
- 💌 Invite friends — Friends you invite get a month of StudyBuddy+ free, and you get a free month when their family joins StudyBuddy+.
- 🔎 Easier to read — Bigger question text, pinch-to-zoom, and dark mode for studying at night.
- ✅ Checked before you see it — Questions and flashcards are checked for accuracy before students see them, and the examples use Guyanese names, places and everyday life.
June 2026
- 🎮 Word Games Hub — Study curriculum words through five games: Word Unscramble, Hangman, Spelling Bee, Word Search, and Crossword. Every game pulls from real subject word packs, so it's learning, not just playing.
- 🧠 Buddy the Tutor — Explain This — Stuck on a question? Tap "Explain This" for a step-by-step breakdown from your own tutor. You can ask follow-up questions until it clicks.
- 🌙 Dark Mode — Study comfortably at night. Switch between light, dark, and system theme from your profile.
- 🎁 Gift Codes — Parents and teachers can now redeem a gift code to activate a StudyBuddy Plus subscription, no card required at checkout.
- 📅 Daily Review Mode — A quick daily practice session served up automatically: a mix of flashcards and practice paper questions based on what you've been studying.

- 🧪 Beta Testing — April 2026 — Before opening to everyone, StudyBuddy.gy was tried out by a small group of students and parents, and their feedback shaped what you see today.

- 🃏 Flashcards with Active Recall — Study smarter, not harder. Flip through flashcards, mark what you know, and keep reviewing the ones you don't. Organised by subject and grade so you always study what's relevant to you.
- ⭐ XP, Levels, and a Leaderboard — Every paper you complete and every flashcard session earns you XP. Level up through named ranks, and see where you stand on the weekly, monthly, and all-time leaderboard.
- 👨👩👧 Parent Dashboard — Parents can create and manage profiles for each child, track streaks and weekly XP, and see when they last studied — all from a single family dashboard.
